Sheikh Tawfiq Al-Amer
Saudi authorities arrested on Sunday, Sheikh Tawfiq Al-Amer most prominent advocates of civil rights and freedoms in Al-Ahsa after his recent call to a constitutional monarchy in the Kingdom.
Sources informed Rasid that he was taken upon arrival directly to the Department of General Intelligence Prison in Dammam.
Amer's arrest came after the last Friday sermon delivered by Sheikh in the mosque imams Baqi in Al Ahsa where he called for political reforms, notably the call for a constitutional monarchy in Saudi Arabia and put an end to sectarian discrimination in the country.
He called on to a constitutional monarchy in Saudi Arabia that include the development of the country's Constitution and to guarantees the separation of the three powers and legalize formation of political parties life in the Kingdom.
He also criticized the Kingdom's state of democracy in the world, saying that among the 167 countries, Saudi Arabia ranked 160 in the world and 22 among Arab countries.
Amer arrest coincided with the release of more than 300 Saudi intellectuals and the national declaration of the Reformation came the call in his introduction to a constitutional monarchy.
